At Deer Lake Athletic Club our Professional Pro Staff will help your child learn the sport of a lifetime.
Whether your child is a Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, High School or Elite Tournament Player, our Instructors will help your child improve his or her skills. Children learn stroke production, techniques, footwork, conditioning, strategy and match play skills. Private lessons are also available for players. All classes offered may not be running in the current session, please call for more detailed information.

2018 JUNIOR TENNIS

JUNIOR PROGRAM GENERAL INFORMATION

Please register for Classes that are age and level appropriate. The Tennis staff is happy to discuss the options with you.

Class space may be limited. Full payment for the session is required to confirm the student’s place in the class.

Players should wear comfortable clothing and court shoes with non-marking soles. A water bottle is also recommended. In summer it may be necessary to occasionally hold classes on the outdoor courts, players may want to bring a hat and/or sunscreen.

Payment must be made and a registration form filled out by the start of the first class. Payments can be made at the front desk or with a credit card over the phone.

ONLY DLAC MEMBERS with 2 or more member students enrolled are eligible for 10% off the lowest fee.

Payments will be prorated for those entering the class after sessions have begun.

Players are required to check-in at the desk prior to every class.

There are NO refunds for classes missed – Students may make up a class by attending other age/level appropriate class during the current session only. NO refunds are given after a session has started. NO make-ups after a session has ended.

Kid’s Night Out

Ages 7-12,  Friday’s from 5:30-7:30PM

This is a fun-filled way for kids to start the weekend! Two hours of basic tennis activities and games on the court followed by swimming in our glass house pool. The evening concludes with pizza & pop! We require a minimum of 5 kids in order to run this event so please call ahead to make sure it’s running.

USTA Junior Team Tennis

This program offers competitive match play for juniors at all levels. Players are grouped by age and level and compete against juniors from other clubs. Matches are on Saturday/Sunday afternoons and consist of two hours of tennis with the home team providing pizza and pop.

The Team Tennis Program requires some commitment – it is extremely important that parents/players attend matches for which they are scheduled.

This first session of league play begins in October. All registration, including purchasing a USTA membership, is done on-line. the cost per match is $17. The Deer Lake tennis staff can help in determining the appropriate team and guide you through the registration process.

Junior Competitive Match Play

Juniors of all ages are welcome to attend our pro-supervised match play days. Players must be able to serve, rally and keep score. Matches will consist of singles and doubles, based on the number of players attending. See dates below – please register in advance for each date.

Team Tennis Practice

Weekly Team Tennis Practices are offered as a supplement to our Junior Tennis Program. These are pro-supervised practice sessions where players work on self-feeding, rallying, competitive games and match play strategy. Advanced sign up is encouraged. 4 player minimum in order to run the practice. Practices begin in October. Dates and times to be announced.

You MUST be registered for one of our Junior Tennis Teams to participate. Practices will be on Fridays 4:30 – 6:30pm, $25 per person. Weekly sign up required.

Red/Orange Ball Level 1 & Level 2

Young players learn to play and compete on smaller courts, with lower nets, lighter, lower-bouncing balls, using smaller, lightweight racquets. All this makes it easy and fun for kids to learn, hit, play and score from the start – all while developing skills that last a lifetime.

Intro to Red Ball (3-4yrs)/Red Ball (5-6yrs)

This class is geared toward the very young player with little or no tennis experience. Players are introduced to the game in a safe, fun and enthusiastic environment. Children are introduced to the 10 & under format: Large foam or red low compression ball on a smaller (36′) court. Free racquet included.

3-4 years, 4:30 – 5:00 pm; 5-6 years, 5:00-6:00pm

Orange Ball I (7-10yrs)
For elementary-aged players with very little or no tennis experience. Introduces the game in a safe, fun and enthusiastic environment. Children are introduced to the 10 and under format: (60′ courts) with low compression orange balls. This class will focus on stroke production and teach the fundamentals of movement on a tennis court. Serving and scorekeeping will be introduced as well as the tools necessary to begin playing with other children.

MONDAY 6:00-7:00 pm, WEDNESDAY 6:00-7:00 pm & SATURDAY 10:30-11:30 am

SUMMER SCHEDULE – Monday through Thursday 9:30 – 10:30 am

Orange Ball II /Tournament Orange (7-10yrs)
This class is for young players who are beyond the Level 1 and have some knowledge of the following: Grips, stroke technique and movement, but still need plenty of work! Moving and hitting are emphasized along with learning to rally with proper form and increased consistency. Low compression ball will be used. Players enrolling in the Tournament Orange clas  must be able to rally, serve, keep score and are expected to participate in local Orange Ball Tournaments.

Green Ball I & Tournament Green (7-10yrs)
This class is designed for players with some experience who have progressed through the Orange Ball program and are ready to move to the Green Ball level.Forehand, Backhand, volley and serve fundamentals will be stressed. Movement, footwork, court positioning and basic tactics are introduced. Players learn competitive and cooperative games. Tennis scoring will be discussed. Players enrolling in the Tournament Green class are expected to participate in Junior Team tennis and Youth Progression Tournaments.

Green I – THURSDAY 4:30-5:30 pm
Tournament – WEDNESDAY 4:30-5:30 pm, THURSDAY 5:30-7:30 pm, SATURDAY 10:00 – NOON

SUMMER SCHEDULE – Monday through Thursday 9:30 – 10:30 am

Yellow Ball I (11yrs & up)
For players with little or no previous instruction and are considering playing high school tennis or are just looking for a fun, social activity. Players will learn on full-size courts with regular balls and equipment. Introduction to proper grip, forehand, backhand, serve and volley are taught with emphasis placed on technique, footwork, match play and rules of the game. Regular, yellow balls are used at this age.

MONDAY 3:30 – 4:30 pm, WEDNESDAY 3:30 – 4:30 pm & SATURDAY 12:30 – 1:30 pm

SUMMER SCHEDULE – Monday through Thursday 10:30 – Noon

Yellow Ball II (11yrs & up)
For players who have completed Yellow Ball I requirements or have moved through/aged out of the youth progression system and are considering playing in leagues and tournaments. More emphasis will be placed on spins (topspin, slice) and styles of play. Through drills, cooperative and competitive games, players will increase in consistency, power and control. Players will work on all tennis strokes through drills and competitive play.

TUESDAY 5:30 – 7:30 pm, THURSDAY 5:30 – 7:00 pm & SATURDAY 10:00-12:00 pm

SUMMER SCHEDULE – 

Tournament and Varsity Training (11 yrs & up)
These classes are designed for students who are currently playing or would like to play on High School JV or Varsity teams or players who have accumulated enough tournament points and have progressed to the yellow ball level. Class consists of drills, cooperative and competitive games, footwork and conditioning exercises and improving match play strategy. Players are expected to  be disciplined, maintain a high level of intensity and practice outside of class time. Players are encouraged to participate in USTA Tournaments and pursue district and sectional rankings.

MONDAY 3:30 – 5:00 pm, TUESDAY* 3:30-5:30 pm, WEDNESDAY 4:00 – 5:00 pm,  THURSDAY* 3:30-5:30 pm,  FRIDAY* 3:30-5:30 pm & SATURDAY 12:00-2:00 pm

Walk-On Court Time

 

Players enrolled in/fully-paid for a session of our Junior Tennis Program are eligible for FREE WALK-ON COURT TIME. Courts may be reserved the day of play ONLY. Players are responisible  for appropriate on court behavior, including picking up balls used – failure to do so may lead to revoking of the court time privilege. Drop-in players are NOT eligible for free walk-on court time. Parents may hit/drill/practice with ONLY THEIR CHILD for half-off the court time rate. Juniors not enrolled in the program may play with those in the program for half-off court time rate. Regular guest fees will apply for using other areas of the club.

Weekly sign-ups are allowed only if it does not interfere with Pro: Student ratio and court availability. Weekly sign-ups will not be allowed in situations where the class/court will become overloaded. You must call in advance or risk your child not being able to participate that day.

Multiple child and second class discount available for DLAC members. Payments will be pro rated for those entering class after session has begun.

Players are welcome to make up missed lessons, during the current session, by attending other age/level appropriate classes offered at other times. Discuss make-up options with the pro or by calling the Tennis Desk. No make ups will be honored after a session is finished; no credits will be applied to future sessions. No refunds after a session has started.
