Tennis Court Etiquette
While tennis has its official rules, it’s also important to be mindful of court etiquette, a set of unofficial rules that signify good tennis sportsmanship. Tennis is a social game, involving simple politeness and consideration. Everyone will enjoy their time on the court so much more if these guidelines are observed. Please read and observe the following:
- Talk quietly when standing near tennis courts that are in use.
- Never walk behind a court when a point is still in play. Walk behind the curtain to the proper court entrance.
- If people are already on your court, don’t disturb them until their time is up.
- Return a stray ball to the correct court once the point is finished on that court. Do not walk onto an occupied court to retrieve. Once the point is finished, politely ask a player on that court for your ball.
- At the conclusion of your court time, pick up all personal belongings including balls, water bottles, racquets, bags, etc. Also check behind the curtain and pick up any stray balls.
